The music duo Brandon and Leah officially got divorced in 2019 after being together for 14 years. The two artists also have a 6-year-old daughter named Eva James Jenner, of whom they share a joint legal and physical custody. For fans that actively followed the singers on social media and watched them on the reality show “Keeping Up with the Kardashians,” the news of their split came as a massive shock. Like many people, you might also be wondering, why did the couple break up?
There was no major reason why they parted ways. However, the separation was completely amicable, and the former reality stars have already moved on from their divorce and are currently on good terms. “Leah and I split up in a really beautiful way, and I think we handled it in the best way possible,” Jenner told PEOPLE.
Brandon, the 40-year-old son of Caitlyn Jenner and her wife Linda Thompson, first met Leah in middle school in Malibu, Calif. “We’ve known each other since we were 11 years old; I was 11 years old, he was 13,” said Leah in a podcast episode in 2014. The two stars started playing music together in high school, so they’ve known each other for a very long time. Thus, Leah James, daughter of the former Eagles guitarist Don Felder, tied the knot with the reality star Brandon Jenner in Hawaii in May 2012 and had their daughter Eva in 2015.
In September 2018, after being married to each other for six years, the duo broke the news that they’d be going separate ways in a joint statement on social media. “After celebrating fourteen beautiful years together, we have lovingly come to the decision to end the romantic aspect of our relationship,” they wrote on their Instagram post. Two weeks after this announcement, James officially filed for divorce from Jenner.
They made it very clear in their statement that the breakup was a mutual decision, and they still cared about each other. “There has been no lying or cheating or fighting that prompted this change, just an expansion of our individual evolution which has inspired us to support each other in a new way. We are still very much a loving family and are bonded by a deep connection that is rooted in love,” they said in their statement. Although the former couple didn’t explain any further what ‘an expansion of individual evolution’ meant, the split seemed to be a natural progression and a decision that was best for both of them.
“It was a process, and it took some time to finalize,” said Brandon.
Even though the two singers went through a sad breakup and are no longer together, they maintain a positive friendship full of love and support. Thus, their post-divorce relationship is as healthy as it can get. They still continue to bring out the best in each other and spend time together as a family since their daughter Eva is their top priority.
