Why is Dating so Hard?

No matter how easy those rom-coms make it look, dating can be complicated. Since no one relationship is identical to the other, it can be hard to navigate the world of dating. So much of people’s time is spent searching for a partner that matches their criteria of an ideal companion. Especially in today’s age of dating apps, the whole process of meeting someone has become incredibly easy, but finding the person who is right for you has turned into a challenge.

The reason why dating can seem to be so difficult is because of:

The Media Portraying a Perfect Image of Love

The picture of love that books, television, movies, and other media, especially social media, paints is far from reality. They make us believe that upon meeting the “perfect” person, you’ll feel an intense spark from the very start. From reading and hearing all those cheesy quotes, our minds get conditioned to expect perfection. In today’s culture, having fun is prioritized more than committing to a single person. So, after the butterflies are gone, and the daily routine sets in, people get bored and start looking for someone new.

The Fear of Dating

It’s normal for people to feel a lot of pressure internally when trying to date someone. Putting yourself out there and looking for somebody is a vulnerable position to be in since it also involves the possibility of rejection. Although it’s okay to feel nervous on a date, but when people constantly focus on small details, they aren’t able to easily connect with the person sitting in front of them. Plus, most people steer clear of dating because they’re afraid of getting hurt or choosing the wrong option.

Hookup Culture Causing Ambiguity

Nowadays, casual dating has become the norm. To maintain a relationship, both parties need to invest the time and energy that is required. However, like in most domains of life, people seem to run away from responsibilities in their love life as well. Especially teenagers look for acquiring the perks of a relationship without having to put in the effort and commitment. Most people prefer hooking up with someone since it means not giving labels and still getting the physical benefits. This culture creates ambiguity and confusion at times if both parties have not decided or clearly defined what their relationship means.

How Technology has Altered Communication

In this digital age of cellphones and the internet, communication isn’t the same as it used to be. Even though texting makes it easier to stay connected, it takes the emotion out of the conversation. Moreover, you cannot completely judge the other person’s personality based on their online persona. This often leads to trust issues, and the intensity of the connection isn’t the same.

Thus, modern-day dating can be difficult because of how things have evolved over the past few decades. People have trust and commitment issues which they got from past negative experiences. This makes it hard to find someone with the same emotional availability and willingness to make efforts as you.

Why Did Scarlett Johansson and Ryan Reynolds Divorce

The Canadian actor, Ryan Reynolds and the Gossip Girl star, Blake Lively are married with three kids. On the other hand, Scarlett Johansson recently married SNL writer, Colin Jost in an intimate wedding ceremony. However, if you look at Hollywood history, you’ll find that both Reynolds and Johansson were married to each other at one point.

It might be shocking to many people since they’re both halves of beloved Hollywood power couples. After dating each other for a year, the Deadpool star and the Avengers actress had tied knots in 2008. But, like many marriages, this one also came to an end, and both of them announced their separation in 2010. At the time of their divorce, they released a joint statement, affirming their continued ‘love and kindness’ for each other.

Although there aren’t many reasons why they divorced, a few key things might’ve made the A-list duo call it quits. Here are a few theories of reasons we think they parted ways:

1.  She was Too Young for Commitment

At the time they got married, Reynolds was 31, and ScarJo was only 23 years old. This is a bit young by anyone’s standards, and the actress later admitted to this in an interview with Vanity Fair.

The first time I got married, I was 23 years old. I didn’t really have an understanding of marriage”. She added, “Maybe I kind of romanticized it, I think, in a way.”

2.  She Didn’t Know How to Deal with Marriage and Communicate

In the same interview, the 36-year-old reflected on what she’s learned about marriage and now looks at her divorce experience as a growth period. She revealed her current situation in comparison to her first marriage.

“It’s a different part of my life now. I feel like I’m in a place in my life, I feel I’m able to make more active choices.”

The star of The Nanny Diaries confessed she knew how to express her feelings better in 2014. She explained to Glamour, “I feel I know now more of what I need in a relationship, what I want in a relationship. And I know I have more tools to communicate…”

3.  Career Competition and Jealousy

In 2016, Johansson suggested that Reynolds was too competitive or jealous when it came to their careers, which might have played a role in their split.

“The logistics of being with another actor are challenging….even if one person is more successful than the other…There may be a competitive thing.”

A year earlier to this, she hinted similar sentiments in an interview with Parade.

“It takes a man who’s not only confident in the love that you have for one another, but confident in what he has going on in his own career.”

She’s More Private than Him

From the two actors, Reynolds seems to be more drawn to the limelight than Johansson. Since his current relationship with Blake Lively is quite open to the public, with some PDA moments now and then. On the contrary, Scarlett likes her privacy, and there are very few photos of her weddings or with either of her exes.

Clashing Personalities

Another major reason could be their personalities that are entirely opposite.

An insider revealed to Daily Mail, “He’s more traditional, and she’s more independent.”

Why Did Javi and Kail Divorce

The former reality TV show couple Javi Marroquin and Kailyn Lowry got married back in 2012. Their relationship journey has been on a rough road filled with breakups and patch-ups. Both of them also share a 7-year-old son named Lincoln. The couple finalized their divorce in 2016, but recently there have been reconciliation rumors. However, the rumors of them getting reunited might not be accurate, but they’ve come a long way in successfully parenting. Plus, they’ve also become business partners, which suggests that the two are on good terms.

Although viewers of the hit TV show, Teen Moms 2, have seen the couple’s marital problems play out, someone who hasn’t actively followed the news might wonder why they split.

Like most breakups, their divorce wasn’t caused by just one thing. These are a few factors that played a role in them parting ways:

Why Did Javi and Kail Divorce

Rushed Into Marriage

During the time they were married, Kailyn used to tell people that she was happy and in love, even though this was far from reality. In her book, A Letter of Love, she confessed that their entire relationship was rushed, and they got married before they should have due to the pressure she felt from being on a reality TV show. She wrote, “I think things would have been completely different if we didn’t have the pressure of all of our viewers from the show and from so many outside opinions.”

She even admitted that she knew before even getting married to Marroquin that she’d regret her decision since their relationship wasn’t in a steady place. She further wrote, “I was overcome and filled with doubt at all times. I was trying to convince myself that things would get better in time, but they never did.”

Different Love Languages

Apart from many other issues that played a role in their breakup, having different love languages may have contributed to bringing their relationship to an end. In her podcast, Lowry showed signs of regret, admitting that their relationship could’ve ended in a completely different way.

Looking back, do I think that it could have worked? Yeah, I think that it could’ve worked, but we were so young, and our love languages are really different.” explained the Teen Mom star.

Cheating

Javi had been deployed overseas when they were both married. During this time, Kailyn cheated on Javi with multiple people, as she later confessed as well. At the same time, the 29-year-old actress suspected that Marroquin was also guilty of being unfaithful to her. This was later confirmed by a lie detector test that Javi had to take unwillingly.

The challenging life events that the pair went through like Kailyn’s miscarriage and Javi’s deployment were only followed by the pre-existing issues that the couple had been dealing with, such as Javi’s jealousy or Kailyn’s emotional detachment. Despite whatever personal issues both of them have had with each other in the past, they now seem to be getting along well with each other by putting their children’s best interests in mind.

Why Did Brandon and Leah Divorce

The music duo Brandon and Leah officially got divorced in 2019 after being together for 14 years. The two artists also have a 6-year-old daughter named Eva James Jenner, of whom they share a joint legal and physical custody. For fans that actively followed the singers on social media and watched them on the reality show “Keeping Up with the Kardashians,” the news of their split came as a massive shock. Like many people, you might also be wondering, why did the couple break up?

There was no major reason why they parted ways. However, the separation was completely amicable, and the former reality stars have already moved on from their divorce and are currently on good terms. “Leah and I split up in a really beautiful way, and I think we handled it in the best way possible,” Jenner told PEOPLE.

Brandon, the 40-year-old son of Caitlyn Jenner and her wife Linda Thompson, first met Leah in middle school in Malibu, Calif. “We’ve known each other since we were 11 years old; I was 11 years old, he was 13,” said Leah in a podcast episode in 2014. The two stars started playing music together in high school, so they’ve known each other for a very long time. Thus, Leah James, daughter of the former Eagles guitarist Don Felder, tied the knot with the reality star Brandon Jenner in Hawaii in May 2012 and had their daughter Eva in 2015.

In September 2018, after being married to each other for six years, the duo broke the news that they’d be going separate ways in a joint statement on social media. “After celebrating fourteen beautiful years together, we have lovingly come to the decision to end the romantic aspect of our relationship,” they wrote on their Instagram post. Two weeks after this announcement, James officially filed for divorce from Jenner.

They made it very clear in their statement that the breakup was a mutual decision, and they still cared about each other. “There has been no lying or cheating or fighting that prompted this change, just an expansion of our individual evolution which has inspired us to support each other in a new way. We are still very much a loving family and are bonded by a deep connection that is rooted in love,” they said in their statement. Although the former couple didn’t explain any further what ‘an expansion of individual evolution’ meant, the split seemed to be a natural progression and a decision that was best for both of them.

“It was a process, and it took some time to finalize,” said Brandon.

Even though the two singers went through a sad breakup and are no longer together, they maintain a positive friendship full of love and support. Thus, their post-divorce relationship is as healthy as it can get. They still continue to bring out the best in each other and spend time together as a family since their daughter Eva is their top priority.

Keeping it Real this Holiday Week

As we all burrow down in our homes, most of us wonder how unusual this year’s Holidays will be. For many of us, not attending worship services or enjoying meals with our friends and extended family this week will be a significant change. One of the significant drawbacks of today’s world is not spending time with loved ones near and far. However, there are numerous methods to be spiritually fit and engaged right now.

‘Face to face’ Meetings

Coming together for meals or digital dates via one of the numerous video conferencing systems is a great way to keep connected. Long phone conversations or writing a letter to your siblings, parents, or partner that you can’t visit right now are always options for meeting up and bonding.

Users’ satisfaction with video conferencing applications is skyrocketing as a result of their favorable experiences with them. Users are gradually growing more at ease when utilizing these apps with their friends and family. It’s helped them stay in touch with love interests and friends in a significant way.

Individuals are progressively developing into the concept of meeting face to face through their screens, from virtually cooking and eating a meal to catching up; meetings have become digital, and nothing less is expected for the forthcoming holidays. Hence, breaking bread with family and friends is expected to be via conferencing.

Spring Cleaning

Nature’s indications are telling us to nest as flowers bloom and birds chirp. Spring is synonymous with new beginnings. There are many ways we can open ourselves up to fresh opportunities for growth this Holiday week.  When we purge our closets and rooms of items, we barely use or don’t particularly enjoy, the world makes room for us to discover the things that bring us delight.

This week is also an excellent time to rethink our relationships with ourselves and others. In a healthy relationship, what do we desire and need? What steps can we take to become better versions of ourselves?  Better lovers, friends, siblings, parents, and children?  Taking a moment to explore and improve on these areas can help us maintain our sense of joy.

Personal Care

There are a few easy things we may do daily to maintain our emotional and spiritual balance.

Meditate. At first, keep it brief and straightforward. We can rid our minds of undesired thoughts by taking deep soothing breaths and turning inwardly. We make room for clear indications from a more profound point in our consciousness that is more enlightening, encouraging, and helpful when we quiet our minds.

Pray.   One of the most potent soul soothers has always been prayer. Even if we are unable to attend our regular places of worship this week, we may all celebrate and worship from the comfort of our own homes with our close families, or we can get on a video call with loved ones and spend the moment together.

Exercise. It only takes 20 minutes per day to make a significant difference. A little dose of vitamin D and fresh air from a brisk walk or run outside can completely change your perspective.

Let us rise to this unexpected challenge in a warrior-like manner that will not only benefit our society’s health but also transform each of us in a profound, meaningful, and positive way.

May everyone find a way to enjoy the holidays in any way they celebrate!

Oversharing Too Much of a Good Thing

The conventional wisdom in relationships is that we should always be completely honest with our partners. They say that a healthy relationship is built on microscopic honesty. But is that the case?

There is a tendency to overshare as reality has evolved to a more tech-centered society; finding romantic partners has become the norm which is understandable when we are more isolated. When we develop a genuine connection, we tend to disclose quite a bit. Under the current conditions, the traditional reasons for this, and the red flags that come with them, are forgiven a little more.

When it comes to establishing a new relationship, taking it slow and exploring the various aspects of a person is always the best strategy.

It’s usually preferable to keep a little mystery and not reveal everything in the first meeting or virtual meeting. In the old days of romance and courtship, one reveals today through the initial exchange of text messages is what one revealed over a span of weeks. We’re not saying that we go back a century in our courtship rituals, but we can leave some room for discovery if we slow down a little.

Discovery! What an idea. Maria, CEO of Exquisite Introductions, said the excitement that grows during the first few dates of a successful relationship much exceeds the instant gratification of emptying our hearts on the first date. Especially now when we’ll be pent up and alone for a few months. The temptation to overshare is considerably more robust, she states further.

On virtual dates, we should certainly take our time. In many cases, patience is a virtue.

We may still express the numerous facets of our personalities and share the things that interest us. It’s a balancing act at first to be our most genuine selves while still being our most appropriate selves. It’s always a tricky balancing act.

That is precisely the point. Balance. How can we achieve the right balance between sharing our tales and bombarding someone with them? How can we leave something to be sought, something to be explored? Maria continues that it’s more of an art than a science.  The art of seduction, chemistry, and relationships should always be a little enigmatic. It kind of spoils the enjoyment if we know everything upfront, she elaborated.

Individuals who appreciate knowing they have the freedom to their thoughts and feelings require privacy. On the other hand, trust is necessary for a relationship to flourish, and secrets damage trust and, in some instances, partnerships entirely. Make it a point to talk to your partner about the distinction between what you would like to keep private and what you would like to share with your partner; this is a crucial conversation to have.

Healthy limits are a necessary component of any successful relationship. While it’s crucial to recognize our differences as people and couples, we must also question ourselves: When does privacy become secret, and when does excessive information ruin a relationship? Where do you draw the line between truth and an overload of information?

Why Dating Sucks

Welcome to the topic “Why Dating Sucks.”

Even though it has become easier than ever to meet potential partners, somehow dating has become just as problematic. For a single person trying to find someone they can be with, the whole dating process can be confusing and tiring. Plus, the shift that has occurred due to technology and the internet has made it even worse.

Here are a few reasons why dating sucks:

Meeting People

In today’s modern dating world, mostly everyone relies on the internet to meet someone they can hang out with. Even if your friend introduces you to someone, the first thing you’ll do is stalk them on social media. Due to this, people have become pickier in choosing who they want to date. Plus, the swipe feature on popular dating apps like Tinder or Bumble is appealing to the youth as they can instantly connect with a suitable match. They only swipe profiles that seem perfect to them.

Awkward First Dates

The first date with someone can usually be a little uncomfortable since you both barely know each other. This could get even worse if you both have nothing in common to talk about. Moreover, most people feel anxious because they’re trying to anticipate what might happen next. This makes it even more difficult to enjoy and have a fun time.

Everyone Settles for Low-Effort

Another reason why dating just isn’t the same anymore is that no one wants to put in the effort, which makes it incredibly dull. It has become normal for people to search for a physical connection instead of an emotional one. That is why people now have low standards, and settle for anyone who is available. Additionally, everyone seems to run away from commitment these days and is only looking to “hook up”.

Playing Mind Games

The most frustrating part of dating is that most of the time, people are playing mind games. We have overcomplicated the smallest of things because everyone wants to appear effortless. Thus, people overthink about sending a text so many times before they can finally press “send”. Moreover, many people try to play hard to get and send mixed signals because they don’t want to look ‘too eager’. These head games are especially common in the initial phases of dating since both individuals are unsure about where the relationship is headed.

Moving On

Since most people don’t give themselves time to heal from a breakup and try to jump right into a new relationship, they can still be hung up on their ex even if they start dating someone new. This can make dating even more complicated, especially if the other person was genuinely looking for something serious. Thus, the new relationship will be off to a bad start since one person hasn’t moved on from their previous one.

Navigating the dating world can be weird and complicated, but it doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy it. Even though you might have to date a ton of other people until you actually find a decent person you can be with. It’s still quite possible for you to meet your better half. Thus, you shouldn’t settle for anything less than what you deserve. Always remember to choose someone that makes you happy.

When God Leads You to Divorce

Welcome to the topic When God Leads You to Divorce.

Religious people believe in God’s will and the fact that whatever happens in their life is predestined. So, there might be many instances when you think God redirected your life so that you would make this decision. Similarly, if you make the mistake of committing a sin, your mind may justify it by imagining that it was God’s hand at work. However, even though God has power over your life, there are some things that you absolutely cannot do in His name.

If your relationship has failed, and you’re thinking of getting a divorce, you might assume that it is God who led you to this decision. You need to realize that it’s wrong to have this mindset since humans will be held accountable for their own actions, which they take against the scripture. As a wife or a husband, you’re instructed to follow the principles set forth by God to keep your Holy union happy and healthy. Although humans are bound to falter, some mistakes can end your marriage, and you’ll be the only one responsible.

Here are some of the changes that God will not make in your marriage:

God Will Not Lead You to be Unfaithful

When you meet someone you like while being unhappy in your marriage, you might start spending more time with that person instead of going home to your spouse. Since this will lead to heartfelt conversations and exchange of compliments, it’s obvious you’ll develop feelings for them. At this point, you may start having doubts about staying in your current relationship. Consequently, these romantic emotions will result in thoughts like “Maybe I’m meant to be with this person.” or “God has made us cross paths and wants us to be together.” These thoughts are completely false since God would never provide you with an opportunity that can shatter your relationship.

God Will Not Cause Distance

Maybe at the start of your marriage, you and your spouse shared the same dreams, views, and perspectives on life, but now one of you has changed. It’s possible that you have grown to be more religious over the years while your partner has not. Due to this difference in the levels of spirituality, your bond might not be the same. While it’s essential to be on the same page as your partner, divorce is not the answer in case differences or difficulties arise.

Since God is not in favor of a marriage ending, He is not the one who has caused this strife. However, the Lord doesn’t condone this act and forgives someone who has suffered from divorce. Additionally, He can also heal the person who has gone through a separation, but He’s definitely not the one who caused it.

God loves you and wants you to have a spouse that treats you right and commands you to treat your spouse the way they deserve to be treated. Moreover, He wants you to grow your relationship with Him while also strengthening your marital ties. So, while the Lord does not cause your relationship to fail, He can answer your prayers and heal your broken marriage.

What is Second Base in Dating

Welcome to the topic “What is Second Base in Dating.”

If you’re wondering what the second base in dating is, you probably know how the four bases are used as a metaphor for physical intimacy with someone, and the fourth base (home base) is sex. Most people agree that the first base includes kissing or making out. However, defining the second and third bases gets complicated. So, if you’re also wondering, “What does second base mean, anyway?” then keep reading.

Since there are only four bases, getting to second base is considered a big deal in baseball because the possibility of hitting the home base is higher than it was in the first. Similarly, in a sexual context, the second base is a big step for a couple as it means going from innocent kissing to more sensual touching.

By definition, second base means fondling breasts over or under the clothing and groping butts. It is also defined as “heavy petting,” which ranges from breast massage to fingering or handjob. This means touching your partner anywhere on the body. Moreover, people divide this base into “major” and “minor” leagues. The difference between the two is that minor league only involves feeling or touching chests while major means masturbating one’s partner. Additionally, it’s also unclear where the major league fits in, since most people consider it a part of the third base.

This base is a natural progression from pecking or making out as your hands begin to move around your partner’s body, and the skin-to-skin action also increases. The intimacy between both people starts to grow, and with the mood building up, the quality of the sexual encounter starts becoming better. It’s essential to communicate your needs to figure out the pace and connection between you and your partner and find out whether you’re comfortable with each other or not.

The intensity of desire starts spreading to the entire body as you sensually touch each other around different erogenous zones. These areas are extra sensitive to touch as they contain a huge number of nerve endings. The most common ones are lips, ears, neck, chest, nipples, or butt. However, your partner may have a personal preference for getting touched on unexpected areas like their inner thighs or the inside of their wrists. This way, you learn about the areas that please your partner as you continue to connect physically and romantically at a deeper level.

If you spend more time on this base, you’ll get a better understanding of your partner’s desires and the body parts they’re not confident in. They might practice compartmentalization which means allowing you to touch them in some areas while ignoring others. Therefore, if you move at a slow pace while tracing your hands on the body parts your partner is insecure about, like their belly or thighs, it may help them accept their imperfections and feel more confident about those places. Consequently, you notice the way their body reacts to your touch and discover their personal erogenous zones.
